David Beckham attacked by ‘lovestruck’ male fan

David Beckham received a new first in his playing career today when a ‘love struck’ male fan ran onto the field to hug and high-five him, as his LA Galaxy side clung to a 3-2 lead over the Colorado Rapids in America’s Major League Soccer.
A shocked Beckham looked on as the fan was knocked down by Galaxy teammate Chris Klein and then pinned by one of Beckham’s suited security men.
But ever the gentleman, after realising he was in no danger, Beckham helped pull the fan to his feet before the youngster was taken away.
“I was slightly concerned when I first saw him running at me because he didn’t have a smile on his face and he didn’t have a Galaxy shirt on,” Beckham told the LA Times website.
“So I didn’t know if he was going to come and give me a hug or something else.
“These things happen in games all over the world. Luckily, he just wanted to give me a high five and that was the end of it.”

Bckham returns in Galaxy win

Alvaro Pires and Edson Buddle scored first-half goals to help David Beckham get a win in his return as the Los Angeles Galaxy beat the Colorado Rapids 3-2 on Saturday night.Ely Allen added an early second-half goal for the Galaxy (5-4-2), who moved into sole possession of first place in the Western Conference.
Colin Clark and Herculez Gomez scored second-half goals for Colorado (5-6-0).
Beckham missed last week’s 2-0 loss at Toronto as he was away with the English national team.
Beckham helped the Galaxy get on the scoreboard 4 minutes in as he swung a free kick into the penalty area from some 40 yards out on the right side. The ball bounced off two players before Pires knocked it past Colorado goalie Preston Burpo for his first MLS goal.
Buddle doubled the Galaxy’s lead in the 32nd minute. With Colorado defender Facundo Erpen playing him closely, Buddle dribbled the ball into the penalty area and rifled a shot from the right side of the box into the back of the net.
Alan Gordon and Erpen were each ejected near the end of the first half after a brief altercation.
Allen took a pass from Peter Vagenas in the 50th minute and slotted home a shot from just inside the penalty area for his first career MLS goal.
Clark took a pass from Omar Cummings and slipped a 12-yard shot past Galaxy goalkeeper Steve Cronin in the 73rd minute. Former Galaxy star Gomez poked in a goal in the 82nd minute to cut into the lead.
Landon Donovan, who leads MLS with nine goals, missed his second consecutive league game. Donovan is with the United States national team for Sunday’s game in New York against Argentina.
Beckham returned after missing one match with his national team.

Beckham bought vineyard for Victoria for her birthday
Former Spice Girl Victoria, who recently turned 34, is set to start bottling her own wine, after the soccer star paid a seven figure sum for the plot in California.
A source told Britain’s The Sun newspaper: “The Beckhams became wine buffs when David played in Spain. The vineyard went down a storm with Victoria, she was delighted.”
The vineyard is located in the Napa Valley, approximately an hour flight from the couple’s Los Angeles home.
David, who plays for Los Angeles Galaxy, is said to have spent months researching vineries to find one that was just right for his wife.
He apparently unveiled the present to Victoria by presenting her with a bottle with her name on the label while on holiday in the area last month.
At present it is thought the wine will not be made commercially available and the couple - who have employed a team to run the vineyard - will keep it for family and friends.
Other celebrity vinery owners include Sting, actor Gerard Depardieu and film director Francis Ford Coppola - who was one of the first famous people to invest in the Napa Valley.

Beckinsale’s daughter starts dating Victoria’s son
Actress Kate Beckinsale is keen on fixing up her nine-year-old daughter with Victoria Beckham’s eldest son Brooklyn. The ‘Pearl Harbour’ star admits she doesn’t want her daughter Lily, also nine, to experiment with boys when she is older.
But the actress admitted that she wouldn’t mind if Lily dated Beckham’s eldest son. “I am dreading the day Lily brings home a boy. But she and the Beckham boys get on really well,” Contactmusic quoted her as saying.
“So if she did have to have a boyfriend, then I suppose Brooklyn would get my seal of approval,” she added.

David Beckham’s latest blog
Hi everyone,
I was delighted to be called up to the England squad for the friendlies against the USA and Trinidad & Tobago, and of course to be picked to start each game.
When I handed over the captaincy after the 2006 World Cup I never thought I’d wear the armband again, so I was honoured to lead the team out onto the pitch again against Trinidad and Tobago. As for the games, I thought we played very well. We didn’t concede a goal and we won both matches, which was important. For me personally, getting an assist in the game against the USA was a great feeling. I was really pleased that John Terry put it away. He’s had a tough couple of weeks, so it was great to see the delight on his face when the ball hit the back of the net.
The England lads are off on their holidays now for a well-earned rest, but I’m back with the Galaxy for our next game against Colorado Rapids in the MLS on Sunday night. Whilst some of the team were on international duty, the team lost the last couple of games, so we need to get back to winning ways. They were unlucky to lose, particularly the cup game against the Rapids.
We’ve a good team though, so we’ll definitely be working hard at the weekend. I’m looking forward to it.
That’s all for now
Take care,
David

Beckham: MLS won’t affect my England hopes
Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder David Beckham has insisted playing in the United States will help his England career, rather than hinder it.
Most observers believed Beckham’s mega-money move to Major League Soccer signaled the beginning of the end where his international career was concerned.
Indeed, the former Real Madrid Galáctico was initially ignored following the 2006 World Cup, until then-manager Steve McClaren recalled him in a desperate — and ultimately unsuccessful — attempt to save England’s Euro 2008 campaign.
But the 33-year-old is adamant that playing in an unfashionable league should not affect his England career, insisting the quality of play across the pond is vastly underestimated.
“The standard in the USA is higher than anyone thinks and expects,” he said. “America is a great place to play and the standard is improving all the time.
“People say, ‘Can you play at this level or that level,’ but it doesn’t change me as a player. I’m always going to be the same player — whether I’m playing in Spain, England or the USA. That won’t affect my game.
“I can switch from playing in the USA at the weekend to then playing on a Wednesday against one of the best teams in the world and the best players in the world.
“I’ll always be the same player that, if given two or three yards, I can cross a ball into the danger area. People have said I’ve lost my pace but I’ve never had a major amount of pace anyway. I have never really been someone who has gone past players.”
The major concern for many is whether Beckham can maintain his fitness levels during the MLS offseason, which coincides with the middle of the European season.
But the former Manchester United believes his physical shape is not an issue, and hopes to be a major part of England’s 2010 World Cup campaign.
“Fitness-wise, I feel I can carry on for a few years,” he said. “If I felt I couldn’t carry on, maybe I’d turn around and retire from international football but that is not the case.
“Of course, things can change. At the moment I am taking each game as it comes. Who knows what is around the corner? You can have extreme highs and lows.
“I’ve had those in the last couple of years but I wouldn’t be putting myself forward if I couldn’t physically do it still. I still feel I can perform at the highest level and it is exciting to play again under Fabio Capello, who is a great manager.
“I want to be part of the squad for the 2010 World Cup if at all possible. The manager has already said if I stay fit and I am performing, then I’ve got a chance to be in the squad.”
